The 2026 Nomeks Hostel Week has commenced at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, with residents participating actively in the opening activities held at the hostel complex in Ebeano City.
The week-long celebration, which began on Monday, June 22, is organized by the Nomeks Hostel Executive Council and is aimed at promoting unity, culture, and social interaction among students living in the hostel.
Speaking on the event, the Governor of Nomeks Hostel, Comrade Ufoedu Favour, described the Hostel Week as the hall's flagship celebration designed to foster togetherness and showcase the talents of residents.
She explained that this year's theme, "The Emergence of Queens," is focused on highlighting strength, sisterhood, talent, and leadership among students residing in the hostel.
According to her, activities lined up for the celebration include Sports Day, workout challenges, fitness tests, and team competitions under the supervision of Coach Kachii. Other events include Garri Day, Cultural Day, a Pageant Competition, and an Award Night to recognize outstanding hostel residents.
Comrade Ufoedu noted that the celebration is intended to build community spirit, reduce academic stress, and create lasting memories among students. She added that the event will provide an opportunity for residents to express their creativity, cultural heritage, and talents.
The Hostel Governor expressed optimism that the programme would deliver memorable experiences as residents continue activities throughout the week.
The Hostel Week follows a recent social programme organized by the Students' Union Government for students residing both on and off campus.
