A protest erupted on June 24th, Wednesday night at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, following an alleged incident of harassment involving a Students' Union Government, SUG, official-elect.
The protest, which began at the Boys' Hostel, popularly known as Noca Hostel, drew scores of students who marched through various parts of the campus chanting solidarity songs and demanding justice.
According to the protesting students, the incident occurred earlier in the day at the ESUT Park, where an alleged act of harassment involving a student was witnessed by members of the university community. The development reportedly sparked outrage among students and led to calls for action.
During the rally, protesters repeatedly chanted "Venture Must Go," accusing an individual identified as Venture and some of his associates of involvement in the alleged harassment. The students called on the university authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
Some participants expressed concern over what they described as increasing tensions within the student community and emphasized the need to protect students from intimidation and harassment.
The demonstrators maintained that their action was peaceful and aimed at drawing the attention of the university management and relevant authorities to their grievances.
As of the time of this report, the allegations had not been independently verified, and no official response had been issued by the accused individuals or the university management regarding the incident.
