The Department of Mass Communication Female Football Tournament kicked off today with thrilling encounters among students across different levels.
The opening match saw the 100-level team face off against the 400-level team in a keenly contested game. Playing under the six-a-side format introduced by the coach, both teams displayed impressive teamwork and determination throughout the encounter.
Despite several attempts from both sides to find the back of the net, neither team was able to break the deadlock as the match ended in a goalless draw.
In the second fixture of the day, the 300-level students took on the 200-level students in another highly competitive encounter.
The game remained evenly balanced for most of the match, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to convert them.
However, just moments before the final whistle, the 300-level side capitalized on a late chance and scored the decisive goal, securing a hard-fought 1-nil victory over the 200-level team.
The tournament is expected to continue with more exciting matches as students compete for top honours in the departmental female football championship.
